The 5x10 Project
Green is a journey, not a destination.
Join the 5x10 Challenge!
5 Steps, $5K or less:  cut utilities 10-30%, protect the long-term resale value of your home! You can do it through the 5x10 Challenge!
Somewhere between CFL bulbs and solar panels lies an opportunity for all Americans to enjoy their homes more and spend less on running them.  The 5x10 Project is dedicated to providing the resources for any family to take the first steps towards making energy efficient improvments to their home.

The key is that if you have $5000 to invest in your home, make it energy-efficiency and do it by 2010.    If you take 5 important steps, that $5000 project will only cost you $3500 and will save you big money every month on your utility bills!

For Realtors - The 5x10 Challenge Begins!

On Independence Day, and in coordination with President Obama's United We Serve campaign I am kicking off the 5x10 Challenge.  Between now and December 31, 2010 I will be reaching out to my REALTOR colleagues to challenge them to bring energy efficiency to as many homes as we can.

The 5x10 Challenge is for every REALTOR to reach out to five families and show them the path to wisely invest up to $5000 in energy efficiency in their homes by 2010.  (It’s easy to get to five…a selling client, a buying client, a past client, a neighbor or friend and yourself.)

Benefit to REALTORS:

·         Creates an opportunity to reach out to all past and potential clients in our current market

·         Demonstrates we are looking out for the long-term resale value of our client’s homes

·         Creates an instant inventory of more efficient homes to meet the demand for such homes that will exist when the market recovers

Benefit to clients:

·         Saves them up to $1500 on the upfront investment of approved projects

·         Potentially saves 10-30% on utility bills

·         Protects the long-term resale value of the home (trends tell me that in about 2-5 years consumers will be shopping for homes based on utility bills as well as features)

How to get started:
The Resources tab includes useful how to articles and helpful links.  Start with “$3500 towards energy efficiency…how best to spend it” for step by step recommendation for your clients.  (If they invest the maximum of $5000 the final cost is $3500.)

Use “It Takes More than PITI to Own a Home”  to explain the importance of having an energy efficient home.
